Peter Jackson’s The Fellowship of the Ring opened in U.S. theaters on December 19, 2001. Twenty-five years later, ten members of the film’s cast are reuniting at Fan Expo Boston, running August 7-9, 2026, at the Thomas Michael Menino Convention & Exhibition Center in Boston’s Seaport district.
CBS News Boston confirmed the full roster on July 6. All four Hobbits are attending: Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins), Sean Astin (Samwise Gamgee), Dominic Monaghan (Merry Brandybuck), and Billy Boyd (Pippin Took). Orlando Bloom (Legolas) joins from the Fellowship itself. Karl Urban (Eomer) and Miranda Otto (Eowyn) come from Rohan. John Noble (Denethor II) and David Wenham (Faramir) represent Gondor. John Rhys-Davies, who played Gimli on screen and voiced Treebeard, completes the ten.
Two dedicated events spotlight the Hobbits over the weekend. Saturday, August 8 at 7:30 PM brings “An Evening with the Hobbits: In Celebration of 25 Years.” The following morning, August 9 at 8 AM, the Momentum Ballroom at the Omni Boston Hotel at the Seaport hosts “Second Breakfast, An Unexpected Feast with the Hobbits.” That name is pulled directly from Tolkien’s text: Hobbits observe seven meals a day, and in The Fellowship of the Ring, Pippin famously asks Aragorn about second breakfast on the road out of the Shire. Organizers describe the Sunday morning event as a celebration to rival Bilbo Baggins’ legendary 111th birthday party.
General admission tickets start at $40, with meet-and-greet sessions, photo opportunities, and autograph signings available as separate purchases. Full event details are at Fan Expo HQ.
