“HAHAHA! THAT IS THE FUNNIEST THING I EVER HEARD! Maybe we should call you Elfen for purposing that there are such things as elves and hobbits. We won’t say anything about the dwarves because Marty here is a dwarf!” Everyone was laughing at the girl with the strawberry blond hair as she just stood there teeth clenched as they laughed. Finally after awhile she spoke soft, but a note of anger in her voice

“Call me what you will, but I will find them and if I don’t find them I’ll find the ruins of cities.” Her green eye’s flickered as she picked up her stuff and walked out the door “I’ll show them.”

“I know you will Elfen, sorry, it just suits you, but that’s not the point when are you leaving?” a voice said from behind her. She slowly turned around to face her speaker.

“Eric, it’s ok I like that name, I think I’ll use it from now on. And as for leaving I’m not really sure I think as soon as I can get a jet or something.”
“You can take my private jet. On one condition I come with you until as far as you will allow. As long as it’s over a mile.” He smiled softly. There was a long silence then finally,

“You always did have money to spear and I guess you can come if you lend me some money,” She paused again and smiled softly and said, “I will bring you as far as the island of the Gray Heavens. There you can stay until my return.”

“And if you don’t return? How long am I going to have to stay there? How am I going to get money? I’ll go with you that far with you, but I’m not bloody well staying there forever.”

“Calm down Eric, if I don’t return I’ll send a letter and all my journal’s and tapes. You’ll get them don’t worry. As for everything else I’m not exactly sure, but we must leave at once tomorrow if possible.” With that she turned and left Eric starring after her his beautiful brown eye’s fixed upon her. With in a moment after she had left he picked up his cell and called his pilot.

The next morning was a beautiful one. Elfen sat there looking out her window waiting for Eric to pick her up. She had packed everything. Some would say she overly packed, but she knew that it would be enough to last her. A soft knock was heard at the door and Eric walked in.

“Do you think you have enough Elfen? Look at all this it looks like your moving it does. YEASH!” He looked around at all the bags Elfen had packed. Elfen, getting quite impatient and eager to leave started taking everything out to Eric’s limo.

“You know you could lend a hand Eric in stead of just standing there and looking at my house! Do you want to come or not?” She firmly said picking up her video camera. “Now let’s see if I have everything.” Looking around the house while Eric stood waiting for her by the door.

“I think you do Elfen I mean you packed up most of your house.”

“You can never be too careful. See I just about forgot my tape recorder. And all my tapes,” She grabbed a duffel bag to put them in and handed them to Eric. “Now that I have everything we can leave. Come along now Eric don’t lollygag about.” She walked to the limo with Eric behind her. She climbed into the limo waiting for Eric to tell the driver to go.

“Your very quite now that we’re on our way to my mansion. I thought you were going to talk the whole time. What’s the matter Elfen?” Eric looked at her wondering about why she was so quiet. He could only guess what she was thinking. There was along pause and Elfen still looked out of the window thinking, a million thoughts ran through her head. “Sing us a song why don’t you Elfen?” Elfen turned her head and smiled.

“What song would you like me to sing Dave’s song the one he absolutely loved when I sang it? Or a different one?” Eric looked at her in amazement at her reply. Dave had been there best friend and the reason they were together today. You see Elfen and Dave knew each other since they we’re little. Eric and Dave became friends a month after Dave moved to a new school. Eric was sort of crazy at the time, he had a problem with his brain and there for no friends, but since Dave went to that school (he moved before Elfen did) he had only one friend. One year later Elfen moved to the same school and Dave introduced them ever since then they were known as the unbreakable trio. That’s when they were 14. Then two years later Dave died saving Elfen’s life. Eric and Elfen have always vowed to fulfill Dave and there own dreams and to stay together forever. A tear rolled down Elfen’s face this was one of hers and Dave’s dream was to find elves, hobbits and other things.

“A different one, I couldn’t bare to start crying. It’s been hard these past few years for both of us without Dave.” Eric looked down to the floor.

“What song do you want me to sing then? Maybe in the jet I’ll sing for you I don’t really feel like singing much you took the fun out of it. I’m just kidding by the way,” She pushed his chin up “I know you probably miss Dave as much as I do he was your first and only friend before I moved there and then you had two.” Eric looked deep into her eyes before he answered.

“You two were my only friends and you still had time to be popular. I always wished I were Dave. Good looking, and popular.”

“I think you were perfect just the way you were and even now I still think you are.” She softly smiled and wiped away his tears that ran down his face. Since they were young, Dave, Eric, and Elfen all deeply loved Lord of The Rings and they all saw characteristics of 1 member of the fellowship in them. Dave saw himself as the heroic Aragorn, Elfen and the Lady Arwen, and Eric as the valiant Boromir. Elfen always knew that Eric was more than that, he was a true friend and she knew that it hurt him very much to let her go by herself to a land that she doesn’t know. She knew that Eric was a true Sam and she didn’t want to show it, but she didn’t want to leave him behind. Though she knew she must do this on her own and would prove that Eric was loyal, because she knew that Eric would stay. “You are my Samwise Gamgee, not Boromir.” She flung her arms around him as they both began to cry. They both knew that they might not see each other again. They reached Eric’s mansion as they let go.

The trip on the jet was long and somewhat silent for they didn’t want to start crying again and make it harder to say good-bye. Finally Eric broke the silence.

“What about that song Elfen? Let’s make this a little lighter for the both of us. Sing the song you sung at Dave’s funeral. Please for some reason it might make it easier for us.” Elfen looked up at his request. They both refused to ever hear that song because it was too heavy on their hearts.

“Alright.” Elfen replied. She paused a moment before she started to sing.

“You and me
We used to be together

Every day together always

I really feel
I’m losing my best friend
I can’t believe
This could be the end

It looks as though you’re letting go
And if it’s real,
Well I don’t want to know

Don’t speak
I know just what you’re saying
So please stop explaining
Don’t tell me ’cause it hurts
Don’t speak
I know what you’re thinking
I don’t need your reasons
Don’t tell me ’cause it hurts

Our memories
They can be inviting
But some are altogether
Mighty frightening

As we die, both you and I
With my head in my hands
I sit and cry

Don’t speak
I know just what you’re saying
So please stop explaining
Don’t tell me ’cause it hurts
Don’t speak
I know what you’re thinking
I don’t need your reasons
Don’t tell me ’cause it hurts

It’s all ending
I gotta stop pretending who we are…
You and me
I can see us dying … are we?

Don’t speak
I know just what you’re saying
So please stop explaining
Don’t tell me ’cause it hurts
Don’t speak
I know what you’re thinking
I don’t need your reasons
Don’t tell me ’cause it hurts.”

She paused and let her fare voice ring in air. A single tear escaped her eye, and Eric again looked out the window. “Now it is almost time to say good-bye though good-bye does hurt when_” her voice trailed off. Elfen looked out at the blue sea she knew by the waters color that they were getting closer to the island in which they would depart. Time grew longer as they sat there and said nothing. Elfen in a low voice began talking to herself reciting in elvish. “Er, atta, nelde, kinta, lempe, enque, otso, tolto, nerte, kainen, manqué, rates.”

“What was that Elfen? Did you just say something?” Eric asked startled out of his trance.

“Oh I was just saying the numbers I know in elvish though I can only remember 1-12.” Elfen said looking back out of the window. There was the island, the island of the gray havens.

“So are you going to tell me about this Island?” Eric said looking at the island.

“Well I don’t know much about it though I know that this was the island Frodo came to after he destroyed the ring of power. No one has ever went back east from here it’s forbidden. Though I think I will be allowed though I don’t know why.” The jet was slowly landing on a clear piece of land. “Come help me carry all this junk Eric.”

Eric and Elfen walked to the city in which Elfen would leave for the east. They got to the harbor just as a great white ship pulled up. Elfen approached one of the people on board.

“Excuse me, but I wondered if I could sail back with you to the land in which you are going.” Elfen looked at the fare face of the captain.

“You can’t come with us it’s forbidden. Only one person may return and that is the one with the map, but_” Elfen cut off his sentence by saying,

“I do have a map. Here it is.” She pulled a piece of paper out of her locket. “I’ve had this map since I was little.” The captain looked at the map then to Elfen and his face lifted up.

“You can come now that I’ve seen this and your locket. Oh what a happy hour this is!” he called all his crew over and they helped Elfen and Eric load her stuff on. When all was done, Elfen climbed aboard the ship and slowly turned to Eric.

“You remember you made a promise to me to stay until I return, and if I don’t return I will send all my things back to you.” They looked at each other as the ship began to move. Eric coming back down to earth said one last thing to her.

“I love you!” but he never knew if she heard it or not.

“So why is it forbidden to come east you do you go east and west don’t you?” Elfen said starring ahead. All around was blue sky and blue ocean for miles and miles. The captain was standing with her.

“I don’t really know I just know it’s forbidden, but it was predicted that one person would came back from the gray heavens. They would have the only map back. I don’t know how you got it, but you did. You do look familiar and you do have the locket.” Elfen clenched her locket in her fist.

“What about my locket?’ She asked. The captain turned his head to face her. His deep blue eyes reminded her of the ocean as they looked into her deep green eyes. He took a moment figuring out what to say then.

“It is not yet the time for any one to know, and it is not my place to tell you any more about this land.” He shook his head; “the sun grows weary as the day goes on. We have two more days of this and the sun will set soon I must go see if super is being prepared.” He softly smiled and walked off to below the deck. Elfen stood there puzzled and it made her wonder more about everything.

The next day Elfen went back to the front of the ship and looked out again towards the east. The captain came up behind her.

“Do you have any weapons?” he asked. Elfen turned around to face him.

“I have three knives one in my boot one up my sleeve and one at me side. Why did you want to know?” she replied looking at him puzzled.

“You don’t carry a sword or a bow or anything?”

“No. Why would I?”

“Well you are going to need a sword. Knives just don’t do against the wild things that live there and the other things too! Come with me and I will give you a sword. Though I don’t know if you will be able to hold it they are quite heavy.” He started walking to go below the deck Elfen followed him. Down in one of the lower decks was armor and weapons. The captain explained that this is where all the possessions of the people that traveled to the west kept them. For they did not need them there. The captain looked around and sorted all the swords in to piles, and instructed Elfen to choose one. She looked at them and one caught her eye. It looked almost white and had carvings in it. It reminded her of a larger version of Sting. She picked it up and to her amazement it was very light. The captain, who was busy in looking for a hilt for her, looked up a saw what sword she held and found the perfect hilt for it. It was a brownish black and had the same lettering on it as the sword. He handed the hilt to her with a smile on his face. Elfen put the sword in the hilt and put it on.

“So how does it feel?” the captain asked looking at her still smiling.

“It’s so light and I feel like a worrier. I love it! Thank you so much.” Elfen got a huge smile on her face as she moved around the room.

“You’ll need a cloak too.” He said leaving the room and coming back with a chest. He opened it and pulled out a dark green cloak. He handed it to her. She put it on and looked over his shoulder into the chest. He looked up, smiled then closed the chest with a bang. Elfen shrugged a shoulder then asked.

“What is the name of my sword?” the captain looked at her for a moment.

“It’s named after a star Luinil. That is its name. The previous owner was named Lotesse Ithildin. She named it after the stories she had heard about Luinil.” Elfen looked at him. For some reason he looked really sad though she couldn’t understand why.

The next day was even more beautiful then the last two. The captain told Elfen that they would be arriving the next morning. Elfen looked out from the front of the boat again thinking about what she would be seeing when she arrived. Suddenly something startled her. Something had bumped into her leg. Elfen looked down. It was a kitten. A little black kitten with emerald green eyes. One of the shipmen came up to her and picked up the little kitten.

“Sorry for the trouble miss this little kitten keeps escaping and well I don’t think that it’s good for it. It’s the runt you know. And well we don’t know what to do with it.” Elfen looked at him and then to the kitten in his hands. She spoke very softly.

“What is the kittens name?” The shipman looked at her and smiled.

“It doesn’t have a name, but you can name it if you like.” Elfen thought for a moment.

“Rufus that is what its name should be.” Elfen smiled while she watched the shipman walked away with little Rufus. “Poor kitten. It’s not right for a cat to be on a ship alone.” She said to herself. The captain came up behind her and told her that it was time for dinner then off to bed for she would have to wake up early the next morning.

Elfen didn’t sleep much that night. She lay in her bed thinking of all the things that she was going to find, and why she would need a sword. She also lay thinking about what Eric was doing at this moment, and if she did the right thing by leaving him. The captain came in later to see if Elfen was asleep. She looked at him. There was a long pause before either of them spoke.

“Do you have everything?” The Captain asked when he saw that she was awake. Elfen nodded. “Good we will be there an hour past dawn, and it’s almost dawn so I suggest you get up, get dressed, have some breakfast, and get you stuff on deck.” He smiled softly and turned to walk away. After he left Elfen got up and got dressed. She put on her jeans and her Tank Top, and then she attached her hilt to her jeans. She put everything in her bags. She piled them up by the door and put on her cloak. There was a knock at the door. It was the shipman from yesterday with little Rufus.

“Well hello,” Elfen said with a smile as she saw Rufus. “What brings you here?” the shipman spoke as he held Rufus out.

“I thought you might want to say good-bye to Rufus here before you leave, and I came to bring your stuff up deck.” Elfen took Rufus as the shipmen picked up her bags all at once and carried them up to the deck.

“Well little Rufus it’s best you stay out of trouble and I guess this is good-bye then.” Elfen said as she saw them coming up to a massive piece of land. She smiled and gave Rufus back the shipman and went to where she would get off of the ship.

As they through the anchor over bored she turned to look at the captain. “Well,” she said. “I guess this is where I get off. Keep this ship shining and I hope we meet again one day.” The captain smiled and through back his hair reveling two pointy ears.

“We will meet again young Elfen. I know it.” Elfen was so shocked she forgot that there was no more wall at the plank and she tumbled over. Recovering she smiled and waved as the sailed away.

“Well, now my journey really has begun!” She said to herself as one of her bags begain to move. Out poped Rufus’ head as she layed the bag on the ground. “Rufus! Are you coming with me? Well at least I’ll some companion.” She laughed as she pick up the bag again and started to walk to places unknown.
