Sauron was in trouble. The elves of Rivendell, Lorien and Mirkwood had combined forces to overpower him completely. It had been tried many times before but never with such powerful determination from all races. The orks were still faithful to him but even so against such a powerful race of beings they could be defeated if the enemy was strong-willed enough.

Legolas went back to his chamber feeling proud. He was already leader of Mirkwood but had been voted as leader of all three tribes of elves to lead them all into the huge battle that was to be against the Dark Lord, Sauron. As well as all the amazing happy thoughts welling inside him he had a niggling thought at the back of his head about what he would tell Aara. She had recently been worried that Legolas was taking on too much agreeing to lead Mirkwood but now he was going to lead three great groups of elves… He didn’t know what she would think.

“Aara. My love.”

“Legolas, yes?”

“At the meeting today…”

“Yes. What is going to be done. I hope you have all been wise in your decision and are not going to fight the Dark Lord. It cannot be done.”

“Aara. I have been chosen to lead all three great elven clans to battle in Mordor against Lord Sauron. The one you say cannot be beaten.”

“Legolas! You can’t! It is impossible. For thousands, maybe millions, of years all different people and creatures have tried to fight the Dark Lord. You’ve seen the damage all these battles have done. You can’t go on and lead yet another one. There is no way you can live and you will be beaten.”

“Even if I am beaten and even if I die while trying, I want to lead these people. It is my duty to do so. If I do not I will be considered a failure, a pessimist. That is not going to happen to me.”

“To me you will never be a failure”

“Aara, even if everyone turns against me and it is only you and I, I will be happy. But this is our one chance to beat the Dark Lord once and for all.”

“I will let you do this for the good of all people. Hobbits, Dwarves, Men, and the Elves. But only on the condition that I may come with you.”

“No Aara you can’t come with. You will die and see the most terrible things!”

“Then let that happen. I will not let anything in the World separate us. Even death for we must die together.”

“Oh, Aara. I love you.”

“Oh, Legolas I love you too. So much.”

“I will let you come because I love you so much and I feel too that nothing must come between us and separate us two”
