Chapter 25

Gilraen ran down the path not knowing what to say but she knew she had to get there soon. Nothing had ever felt more urgent than the way she felt at this moment. She finally had made up her mind to put aside all her fears and give her heart to Raion and the feeling was very freeing to her. She did not want to waste another second staying away from him.

She got up to his door and quieted her rapid heartbeat. When she felt under control, she knocked on the door. Immediately her nerves took over and she started to tremble. Raion opened the door and she started to cry.

“Gilraen what is the matter? Is Estel ok? Why are you here?”

His questions came but she did not have the ability to answer them; because she could not make her words make sense. Everything was falling apart for her. Raion had to invite her in and make her sit down. He got her a cup of hot tea. When he came back with the tea, she sipped it as she made her mind think clearly. He started rubbing her arm and all her calmness went out the window causing new tears to flow. He immediately took her in his arms and spoke soothing word that he hoped would help.

“Its ok Gilraen, I am here. Cry it all out.”

“You don’t understand,” she blurted out as her tears started to subside.

“No I suppose I don’t. Maybe you can tell me.”

“You are so kind and I broke your heart.”

“I have never stopped caring for you.”

“I have not either. I have tried so hard. I wanted to know that I was right in denying my feelings, but after 3 years of trying to deny it I see that I never will be able to prove myself right. I love you, Raion. I never stopped loving you. You have been in my thoughts from the time I left you on the bench. I have never sat in that bench since that night. Elrond tried to tell me it was ok, but somehow I could not believe him. Estel has never felt right asking to come see Serme because he was afraid of hurting my feelings. I don’t know what why I listened this time, but Bilbo came and talked to me tonight. He told me sometimes you have to listen to your heart and not your head. I am so tired of running from my feelings. I need to tell you exactly how I feel. I need my heart to be free. I love you, Raion. I love you more than anything in this world. I lo…”

She never got the rest out. Raion took her face in his hands and kissed her with all the pent up passion he had held in for three years. It started slow and tender and then turned into an aggressively hard kiss. Gilraen felt like a starved woman who was just given permission to eat at a banquet in the king’s palace. She wrapped her arms around Raions neck and grabbed handfuls of his silken hair. Raion felt as if all his senses had exploded at once. He pulled her tight to him and ran his hand up and down her back. If he could have he would have sucked her inside himself and held her there forever. His lips left her mouth and kissed all over her face. Little shivers of excitement ran down her body, and almost left her limp. She felt perfectly happy and safe right here in his arms where she belonged. Raion finally stopped kissing her and just sat there holding her.

Finally he spoke, “You don’t know how I prayed for those words. I have not been truly happy for three years. As an eternal being years pass and I have never felt them to be tedious until now. The last three years have been long and laborious. Now I feel free and light. You have me the happiest elf man alive. I want you to be my wife.”

“Yes Raion, Yes. I will never be able to give you back those three years but I sure will do my best to make you the happiest elf in the world. I am so sorry for the wasted years.”

Raion tilted her face up so she could look into his eyes. “I forgive you and I don’t want you to waste any more time thinking on the past. Its over and we will live for the future. Agreed?”

“So will tomorrow be too soon to get married.” Raion asked

“Tomorrow? How will I get everything ready? Who will we invite?”

“I do not care. I just want you for my wife. We have already spent too long apart.”

“We need to go ask Elrond to marry us. We need to tell the children.”

“Lets go do that now. Estel came here after the banquet and I think they are in the garden talking.”

At that moment Estel popped his head around the wall where he and Serme had been hiding. “We heard everything and we agree that you should get married.”

Gilraen’s mouth popped open and she started to laugh. “How long have you been hiding there?”

“I saw you come down the path, and you have not been here in so long I had to know if something was wrong. Are you mad?”

“No, nothing can make me mad this night.”

“Let’s go tell father. He will be so happy.”

“Estel it is too late tonight. I know Elrond will be in bed. You need to go to bed also young man.”

“I was going to spend the night herein the extra room if that is ok with you?”

“Sure. Raion will you walk me home?”

“I have a better idea how about you sleep in my bed for tonight, and I will sleep out here on the couch. It will be ok.”

“Alright if you don’t mind. I don’t want to put you out in your home.”

“It will be your home by this time tomorrow if all goes well. So how does a nice soft bed sound for right now.”

“Perfect! I did not realize how exhausted I was until right now.”

Raion took Gilraen back to his room and after a nice long good night kiss he left her to sleep out on the couch. He fell asleep with a happy smile on his face.
