Erquellewen – Chapter 24- Saruman’s Ideas

by Dec 26, 2003Stories

Erquellewen looked at the back of Saruman’s hood. She was thinking carefully about him. Legolas told her that Frodo and the other three hobbits had killed him. She had just remembered that as they started their journey again. The four hobbits doubted that Saruman was really trying to help them.

Saruman was talking quietly with Gandalf. They were discussing the amethyst. Gandalf was carful to leave a couple of the details out, like the kingdom that they were headed to.
Saruman suspected that Gandalf would do this, but he didn’t really care. He just wanted to steal the map.

“…and now we can’t find the map,” said Gandalf. This brought Saruman to his attention. “We think those spiders stole it while we were asleep.” Saruman smiled, but frowned at the same time.

“My friend,” he said, “I think you’re right. Those nasty spiders must be defeated.” He nodded to Gandalf and turned away.

“Maybe we shouldn’t trust him,” Erquellewen whispered to Mithwethiel, who was traveling next to her. Mithwethiel shrugged and looked up at the tall wizard. He seemed pretty nice. Mithwethiel never really knew how mean he could be.

Saruman heard them talking and then turned around. “You can trust me,” he assured. But he was lying. He had a plan stored in his head.

It was about midnight when the company decided to stop and sleep. Secretly, Saruman was planning to inform his troops about his idea. As Erquellewen and her companions fell asleep one by one, Saruman summoned his troops.

“Okay,” he said, as the last of his troops walked behind the bushes and trees. “I planned on stealing the map, until I found that it has already been stolen by the dumbfounded Japool!” A couple of people shuddered as Saruman said that name. Nobody liked Japool, not even the strongest of the troops. Saruman sighed and went on.

“Now all I have is to steal the amethyst, and walk away to use the powers. I wanted to rule over the kingdom that it belongs to, but we can’t do that until we get the map.” A few people nodded. They agreed that they should take over the Mystery Kingdom.

“But,” Saruman said, “I would get it all. You would all go back to Isengard and rule over a couple of acres there. I would still rule over everything else though.” Many of the people shouted out at these words. They all held their fists in the air. They wanted a fair share, not just a couple of acres.

Erquellewen heard the shouting and looked around. Saruman’s troops weren’t where they were supposed to be. In fact, they were nowhere to be seen. She started to get up, but then she felt something on her back, and she was pushed back to the ground. Somebody’s hand went over her mouth, which scared her a bit. But then, she glanced up, and saw Legolas kneeling behind her. He had heard the shouts too.

Erquellewen could feel Legolas’ heart thumping very fast. She could tell what he was thinking. He thought that Saruman was planning something. Erquellewen felt Lief and Mithwethiel crawl up from behind. They were holding hands very tight. Something was wrong, and the companions needed to find out what it was. They awoken Gandalf, Aragorn, the hobbits, and Gimili. Then they snuck into the darkness of the trees.

PS…sorry this one was so short. My mom made me get into the shower.
