What has happened? – A poem about the ring, middle earth, the ringbearer and much more

by Mar 29, 2002Poetry

A wise man once said to me
“Three rings for the elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for the mortal men doomed to die,
One for the dark lord on his dark throne,
In the land of Mordor where the shadows lie,
One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them,
One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them,
In the land of Mordor where the shadows lie,”
The evil of this time is passing
The days where this poem was whispered has faded
Into the dark woods where only shadows lie
The winds are shifting setting us free
Of everything evil and horrible to see
Rejoice the king has returned
But not everything will be the same
The beautiful elves and wondrous wise are leaving
Setting sail on the seas
With the ring bearer and a company larger than three
Leave and with many hearts they break
The ring bearer has overcome his task
And must be celebrated but he has forever changed
Just like the lands of middle earth
The world is changing: I feel it in the earth, I feel it in the water, and I smell it in the air.”
Middle Earth will never be the same
But it and all of its legends will forever remain in our hearts
