What Can I Do? – Pippin’s lament

by Dec 23, 2003Poetry

What can I do in the scheme of things?
I’m lost when they speak of wars and rings

I’m all alone in this strange new land
With only Gandalf to guide my hand

My closest friend in Rohan I left
Frodo and Sam climb for the great cleft

In great deeds I’m sure they’ll take part
While I only wait, fear in my heart

I wish we were back home in the Shire
Instead of facing enemy fire

I’m too weak to take part in this fight
I’m too small and not overly bright

Yet some strength might be buried in me
Some courage that may set my heart free

Perhaps if I search deep down inside
I’ll find power in me does abide
