She looks up at me
eyes shining
full of innocence
she has not seen death
as I have
she has not seen friends die
as I have
I watch her
jealous of her innocence
she laughs and plays with sunlight
gleaming on the grass
I get up and play with her awhile
and for a moment I forget
the death i’ve seen
the pain i’ve felt
for a moment i am innocent too
but then it all comes back
The friends ive lost
The things ive seen
War is not glory
it is Death
