The Road goes ever on and on
Out from the place where it began
And far ahead the Road goes on,
Yet I must follow, if I can.
Persuing it with weary feet,
And burden heavy in my hand
Away from Shire’s golden wheat
Into hateful, fueding lands
My life behind, despair ahead
Under darkness is my bed
Orc and Uruk and bed of stone
Full of fear, yet not alone
Light is failing, hope is gone
Not again should I see dawn
And yet the Road goes further on
Friend beside, I struggle on
Here I am at darkness end
My destiny around the bend
And still the Road continues on
Though, in my heart, the Road is gone
My home ahead, behind’s the dread
I’ll wander back into my bed
The end of the Road now comes to me
The blessed White Shores beyond the Sea
