The Inn Down the Road – Hobbit song about a trip to a local inn

by May 22, 2002Poetry

O! Once I said to a friend of mine,
“Shall we go to the inn for a bottle of wine?”
“Yes,” he said. “That would be just fine.”
And so we went on our way.

Our way, our way
And so we went on our merry old way
To the inn down the road that day.

We reached the inn down the road and then,
Laughter was heard coming from within
A party was goin on! Twas when
We went on inside.

Inside, inside
And we joined the party going on inside
The inn down the road that day.

Ev’ryone was laughing and drinking.
At the inn not one heart was sinking.
But at one point I got to thinking
It was time that I headed back home.

Back home, back home
It was time for me to head back home
And leave the inn down the road that day.

Well, as we left, I felt my spirit leap;
I knew that night I would not sleep,
For I’d be thinking of my promise to keep
That I’d go back to the inn again.

Back again, back again
I’d be going back again
To the inn down the road someday.
