The End – Legolas leaves and Gimli goes

by Sep 16, 2003Poetry

O Legolas, your silver ship,
To foreign lands shall sail.
Go join the elves upon their trip.
We bid to thee farewell.

For Middle Earth, upon thy part,
A lesser place shall be.
As prophecied, we know your heart,
Now longs to cross the sea.

Gimli elf-friend, dwarven king,
Go join him in his boat.
As last defenders of the ring,
Away you both shall float.

And as the boat went out to sea,
And left Ithilien’s shore,
It all became not memory,
But legend ever more.

Many say the last thing seen,
Sparkling in the air,
Was the generous gift of an elven queen.
Three strands of golden hair.
