The Council of Elrond

_The Council of Elrond_

One Bright and sunny morn,
When the world was all aflame
Was the beginning of a council,
The Council of Elrond.

To unmake,
The One Ring of Power
Was their ambition.

“There is only one way,
To destroy
This great peril of
Middle Earth;
To make the long journey
Into Mordor, the realm
Of the Dark Lord, Sauron.”
Elrond announced.

“It is an empty wasteland;
The air you breathe is poisonous.”
Boromir objected.
“You could not succeed if
You had ten thousand men!”

Much arguing followed.
Elves argued with dwarves,
Dwarves quarreled with men.

Finally, a hobbit, Frodo Baggins,
Was chosen to cast the Ring
Into the Chasm of Mount Doom
And overthrow the power of Mordor.

With Frodo went eight others:
A wizard, Gandalf the Grey,
Two men, Aragorn son of Arathorn,
And Boromir of Minas Tirith,
An elf, Legolas Greenleaf of Mirkwood,
Three other hobbits, Sam Gamgee,
Pippin Took, and Merry Brandybuck,
And a dwarf, Gimli son of Gloín
Together, they set out to destroy all evil . . .
Forever.
