So Much Fear – Frodo, Sam, and the Ring

by Jul 19, 2005Poetry

So much fear that I don’t know;
So much fear that I have never felt.
He had to carry the biggest burden
Over almost every dell.
They didn’t stop
Though so far they had to go.
The farther they went
The more fear there was to grow.
He carried it to the mountain
Until he could barely walk.
He couldn’t toss it in
Though they were at the top.
He tried to keep it for himself.
Then Gollum came along
and took back the Ring
And fell to the bottom.
Sam pulled Frodo up
As he fell but grabbed ‘hold
Of the mountain rock.
Sam pleaded,’Don’t you let go.’
They survived the *burden*
They survived the *war*
They survived the *mountain*
Now they will live in *glory*.
So much joy that I don’t know;
So much joy that I have never felt.
But now that he’s saved the Shire
There he will not dwell.
