Sadness

by Jan 15, 2004Poetry

To hold him in my arms,
Just once an eternity
Of happiness.
To love, and hope in darkness
And all shadows flee,
Forever to remember dreams
Are sleeping reality.

To kiss each cheek,
If once a year
Would hold me so.
Under wars tide smiling,
In autum’s russet hue,
To dance and laugh and sing aloud
With love forever new.

But still I fear the end of all,
An aching in my heart,
I’ve seen the future, though it sleeps,
And time keeps us both apart.
But sleeping thoughts and waking dreams
Are what I long for most;
And never could I take the ships
Or see love become his ghost.
