One More Day – A Song

by Dec 11, 2003Poetry

I tried to write a song to Eowyn, presumably from Faramir, but for reasons beyond my control (writing is like that–to quote Kathy Tyers), it somehow turned itself into a pop song.

One More Day

It’s been a long lonely journey
And you’re sick of being hurt
It’s been constant fear and worry
And you’re always on your guard
But what kind of a life is this?
Hiding yourself for fear of pain?
It’s never hit and always miss
And you’re ready to end this game

Just take it slow
Just keep hoping for one more day
Please don’t go
Don’t keep hurting yourself this way
You fear bars and cages
But you’re the one who’s built them ’round you
Just wait
One more day

You’ve been up and down
On mountains and in valleys
But everything’s over now
You want to end all this craziness
But this is not the way to do so
Don’t snatch yourself away
From a world that needs you so

Just take it slow
Just keep hoping for one more day
Please don’t go
Don’t hurt yourself this way
You fear bars and cages
But you’re the one who’s built them ’round you
Just wait
One more day

Life has its pitfalls
But it’s got wings, too
I’d rather take the bitter with the sweet
Then never taste at all

Just take it slow
Just keep hoping for one more day
Please don’t go
Don’t hurt yourself this way
You fear bars and cages
But you’re the one who’s built them ’round you
Just wait
One more day

You’re afraid to fly
Lest you fall and hit the ground
But when you touch the sky
You wonder why you never found this before
It’s better to soar once
Then to always stay below
Dare and take a chance
Don’t give up now
Just wait
One more day
