Long Have I Lived – A Last Elf Poem

by Dec 2, 2003Poetry

Long have I lived deep in these beech woods
Where I watched with much love in my heart
As the leaves on the trees around me
Put forth their new color each season.

Long have I lived deep in these beech woods
Where my heart still refused to believe
That something more was about to change
Then the slow passage of the seasons.

Long have I lived deep in these beech woods
Where I wished to linger in my heart
While all of my kind were departing
Like leaves at the end of the season.

Long have I lived deep in these beech woods
Where fear now had a hold of my heart
That I would be the only one here
To wittness the beauty of seasons.

Long have I lived deep in these beech woods
Where only great sadness filled my heart
That I was now truly alone here
But for the memories of the seasons.

Long have I lived deep in these beech woods
Where hopelessness now filled my heart
For here I will forever remain
In..the cold of…this….my last…..season…
