In Memory

All of Middle Earth fell still,
As he walked the shores,
To the great gray ships that had,
Sailed from valinor.

They all had come to see him off,
His passing to his blushing bride,
But their pace was slow and grim,
And lengthened every stride.

This beautiful world,
Would be so dim,
After he was
To leave with them.

The elves, and hobbits,
The men of old,
The dwarves in caverns
Deep and cold,

They all had come
To bid farewell,
Even the Great Eagle’s
Silver tears fell.

And mixed upon
The salty shores,
With those whose tears,
Could not reach Valinor.

He was a friend,
A poet a writer,
And now, without his song,
The world would seem much quieter.

He had created
This wonderful land,
Had dreamed it all up
With his pen in his hand.

But all of the creatures
Were excited for him,
Because they knew,
His tale was both happy and grim.

Even some of his
Collage companions were there.
And then he saw her,
Edith, with her fair hair,

Like a halo
About her shone,
She beckoned him her way,
He would not journey alone.

He turned to gaze
upon the land
That God had created
Through his hand.

And though he now had to leave,
And the journey would be hard,
This lands story had just begun,
And his way would not be barred.

He was a friend,
A man full of fame
A teacher, a creator,
But the Havens called his name.

And all of middle earth fell still,
As he walked the shores,
To the great gray ships that had,
Sailed from valinor.
