Frodo’s Identity

by May 14, 2004Poetry

One day in Bag End
A hobbit child asked me to write a story of who I am
After the One Ring was destroyed
And this is what I gave him

Who am I
Why do you ask
I’m just a regular hobbit boy
Who is stuck behind a mask

Why am I stuck
I don’t know why
Maybe it’s the real me or just bad luck from the Ring
But I can tell you right now that’s a lie

Why am I afraid to fight back
Why don’t I talk to the Sackville-Bagginses
I tell him I’m not afraid, I never got along with them anyway
All I want is to be left alone

This is my essay I say to the child
You wanted to know so here it is
I’m just a regular hobbit boy who is hurting
That’s who I am and who I’ll always be
