End of the Third Age – A Bittersweet Victory

by Apr 18, 2003Poetry

Wizards will fall, kings will die
Men will perish, war will rage.
There will be no tears left to cry.
This is the end of the third age.

This is the end of the age of elves,
This is the dawn of the age of men.
This is it, no more morgul spells,
This time the good will win.

But how bittersweet is this victory.
How close we came to the black abyss.
How long will it take until we are free?
How long until we live in bliss?

Wizards will fall, kings will die.
Men will perish, war will rage.
There will be no tears left to cry.
This is the end of the third age.

This is the end of all our hopes
This is the end of all our dreams.
Go now to your elven boats,
Go now to your mysterious sea.

Cross the water, run away!
Find peace somewhere, there is none here.
Something tells me I am bound to stay,
And live through man’s reigning years.

Wizards will fall and kings will die.
Men will perish, war will rage.
There will be no tears left to cry.
This is the end of the third age.

Oh stars above, why is this our fate?
Bound to stay while the eldar roam.
Victory has come, but it is too late.
The darkness has destroyed our only home.

Why must we stay in this place of tears?
Why must we wander, forever lost?
Why must we live in a world of fear?
Why must we wither in this eternal frost?

The elves are leaving, they’re sailing away
All beauty is slowly crossing the sea
What did we fight for? What did we gain?
We can’t ever win. We’ll never be free.
