Bombadil’s Home – a song for dear Tom

by May 31, 2003Poetry

on a hill alone and free,
a space of grass as green as can be,
a house stands tall forever fair,
between forest and wight’s lare,

when the moon is young and stars are lit,
a merry tune echoes and fills even pit,
to gather in a dance with all those who dear,
in this fine house there will be no fear,

“so cast away thy burden, throw it out down yonder,
and see colorful lights, that burst out like thunder,
sing with your voice so high, let it out with wonder,
in the house with merry people are up and down, under.”

cool are the waters are and hot if you like it be,
fresh are your soul at this and laugh for all those who see,
laden are the tables set, quick like a play of dance,
join in the play of tunes, hurry or you’ll miss your chance,

happy are thy hours by, spent in the house of Tom,
where you forget all fears and woes, yea.. feels like home,
busy with no other thoughts, songs and the things to hum,
yet when it’s time to eat, fruits disappears with “yum”,

“so cast away thy burden, throw it out down yonder,
and see colorful lights, that burst out like thunder,
sing with your voice so high, let it out with wonder,
in the house with merry people are up and down, under.”

O, Tom Bombadill, Tom Bombadillo,
By fire, wood and hill by the green willow,
O ,Tom bombadill hearken now and hear us,
Come Tom Bombadill for our need is near us.
