Beyond My Reach

by Jan 20, 2004Poetry

I must leave now what once meant most to me
This land, so dear, I would have died to save
My home, my heart, my youth – fondest memory
To spend many a year here I did crave

Alas, some wounds are much to deep to heal
Alone, this pain destroys me to my core
I cannot bear this empty ache I feel
My soul yearns for the promise of a distant shore

My life was torn, was wrenched away from me
I should have gone to an untimely grave
So I seek solace from the soothing sea
I will go to the harbor, and be brave
I leave to find eternal peace and rest
Behind me, my home and friends I love best
