Athelas

by Jun 4, 2004Poetry

No fresher scent hath mortals smelled
Than Athelas the weed.
Kingsfoil among the common tongue,
It had virtues unperceived.

“When the Witch king flies and the Black Breath blows
And ill news the East wind brings,
Arise Kingsfoil! Stop Death’s dark toil,
And heal in the hands of the King!”
