A blink in all eternity.

by Jan 24, 2005Poetry

When at last, the battle won
and bravely we have fought
for all the glory, we’ll become
a memory, a thought.

From history to story tales
around the fire told
mortal memory soon to fail
and stories do grow old.

Great dreams and visions, fire within
of immortality
truely never can begin
but that we could not see.

What good is glory, honour, fame
when time destroys all things
for all we know, a cruel game
that death and aging brings.

When all is done, where do we lie
farmer, soldier, king?
nameless graves beneath the sky
above the ravens sing.

The wind against a solid stone
a ripple in the sea
a withered blade of grass alone
a blink in all eternity.
