UPDATE 11-08-00 (9:30pm):

Here’s an update from Joram at Ringbearer:

Just spoke with New Line Cinema and the phone and the 3 “teaser” posters that were shown on Coming Attractions today were just test/prototype posters. They are not final by any means. They are among hundreds of composites that have been created. As of now, nothing final has been decided and it’s probably too early to expect any teaser posters showing up in theaters. (generally they show up 6 months in advance of the release)

Coming Attractions has unveiled the three teaser posters New Line Cinema will be using to promote each of the Lord of the Rings films.

Here is what the movie website had to say about the Fellowship of the Ring poster:

November 8, 2000… The day that Tolkien fans around the world have been waiting for has finally arrived: feast your eyes on the teaser poster for the first of the Lord of the Rings movies, The Fellowship of the Ring! The poster was sent to us by a trusted source who requests anonymity, but the image itself comes directly from within New Line Cinema and has been used in promotional material. All three posters incorporate a different primary color and Middle-earth symbol, with Fellowship’s tint being a rich red (but what’s the symbol stand for, anyone know?)

Bottom line: we really, really like it. Let’s hope New Line releases an official image of the teaser poster shortly so we can really see it in all of its glory. Now that the secrets out of the bag, fans of Tolkien know what they want to have hanging on their walls next year.

Coming Attractions had similar things to say about the Two Towers poster and the Return of the King poster.
