British actor John Rhys-Davies is promising JRR Tolkien fans that that the upcoming Lord Of The Rings film trilogy will not disappoint.
The 57-year-old actor plays Gimli in all three movies and says director Peter Jackson’s films will be “three of the richest experiences of all time.” He also claims that the trilogy will add up to 10 hours in total if Peter Jackson gets his way – making each film 200 minutes (three hours and 20 minutes) long. Rhys-Davies already has some history of appearing in popular trilogies, having played Sallah in both Raiders Of The Lost Ark and Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade.
Rhys-Davies wasn’t the only Brit on set – Ian McKellen, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, Sean Bean and Bernard Hill were also keeping him company. And he describes his character as someone who’s “small but doesn’t think he is… he’s one of those admirable little characters who is just brave.”
The actor talks at length about Lord Of The Rings in three exclusive video clips. Go here to see Rhys-Davies talk about Peter Jackson, and here to watch him compare Lord of the Rings to Star Wars. Finally, he talks about the character of Gimli here.
