The Atlanta Journal Constitution’s review of the Fellowship DVD: “It’s marketing overload. But at least somewhere in all the digitized gunk is a pretty darned good movie. “Fellowship” has what George Lucas has lost: a sense of magic, characters with emotion and an intricate narrative not overloaded with mumbo jumbo.
“Fellowship,” directed by Peter Jackson, pays adept cinematic homage to J.R.R. Tolkien’s immensely popular masterwork of fantasy and sorcery, majesty and devilry. The actors do their part, especially the regal Ian McKellen as the eloquent, pointy-hatted wizard. If full-on adventure is your bag, you probably haven’t seen anything this good since “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
