The Ring appear to be a lucky charm for actor Orlando Bloom, who was largely unknown before he took on the role of Legolas in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. The British actor has snagged roles in two upcoming films.
Bloom has signed on to co-star in The Kelly Gang, opposite Heath Ledger as Australian outlaw Ned Kelly, according to Daily Variety. In the film, Bloom will play Kelly’s best friend, Joe Byme. Gregor Jordan is directing the project, which is set to start filming in Australia on April 29.
In addition, Bloom will star in The Calcium Kid, about a British milkman with a steel jaw who is plucked to serve as replacement boxer in a title bout against American champion. Alek De Rakoff will direct.
Bloom’s other credits include Black Hawk Down and the two Rings sequels, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.
