Rings Trailer at Theatres Soon
Evening Post – April 24, 2000
The Lord of The Rings fans who saw a two-minute trailer on the internet a fortnight ago may not have to wait too long to see one on a big screen.
Hollywood columnist Charles Fleming was quoted on an American entertainment website this week as saying he understood New Line Cinema was planning a cinema trailer of the $360 million film project. It would be shown in United States cinemas during New Zealand’s winter or spring.
The Lord of the Rings’ New Zealand publicist Claire Rakskind said she had heard of Mr. Fleming, but couldn’t comment further.
The Internet trailer, which was put on the official Lord of the Rings website on April 7, was seen about 1.7 million times in the first 24 hours.
Filming of The Lord of the Rings began on October 11 on Wellington’s Mt Victoria. The first part of director Peter Jackson’s trilogy, The Fellowship of the Ring, will screen at Christmas 2001.
