I’m sure the scene described below will be repeated all across the world as tickets start to go on sale… Thanks to Annabel from TV3 for the news!
Lord Of The Queues
TV3 – November 15, 2001
Tickets for the first New Zealand screening of Lord of the Rings have been snapped up by committed fans.
Some of them queued all night to ensure they’d be in the audience when the film opens here on December the 20th.
Fans sat outside Hoyts Wairau Park in the cold and the dark.
Their mission….to be the first in the world to buy tickets to the first episode of Lord of the Rings.
One queuer says: “I’m a huge fan of Peter Jackson, we’ve seen shots and that on the internet and we can’t wait. It’s gonna be awesome.”
It was a cold wet night but 10 hours later they were no longer alone, and at 7 am the box office opened.
There were similar scenes in Wellington, where they started gathering at 4.30 in the morning.
Lord of The Rings’ Fan Paul says: “to be one of the first to own a ticket, thats just everything.”
Student Meg Poutasi says: “I think everyone was a bit nervous that everyone was gonna buy up all the tickets and one guy brought 41 tickets.”
But where there’s a will there is a way – and those diehard fans who queued will now be watching the epic at one minute past midnight on the 20th of December.
