Horror star Christopher Lee is in final talks to co-star in the upcoming production of Lord of the Rings, according to reports from the US.

Lee, who has starred in nearly 250 films and TV productions, could play Saruman in the epic JRR Tolkien tale, being made over the course of a year by New Zealand director Peter Jackson.

Fellow British stars Ian Holm and Sir Ian McKellen are already signed up to appear in the trilogy, which begins shooting in New Zealand in October.
