Thank you for the offer Frodo, but it’s not a diamond.
The Fellowship has reached the Elven city of Lothlorien and have met Celeborn and Galadriel, the Lord and Lady of Lorien. As the others use the time for rest and recuperation, Frodo and Sam stare deeply into “The Mirror of Galadriel.” Plagued by dark visions of a possible future, Frodo tries to give the Ring to Galadriel so that she could use it for good. She refuses, knowing too well that she could not control it.
Through the visions, we learn that a dark fleet is coming to a great white city and that the Eye of Sauron is ever present in Frodo’s mind. The one thing that caught me off guard is that someone would dare mess with Sam and his home in the Shire. How dare they?!!! However, despite the visions, Sam decides to continue with Frodo until the end of his Quest.
The one point about this chapter that stands out most in my mind is the presence of Galadriel remains a strong one even in dark times. It seemed to me that she easily refused the Ring without giving it a second thought (I could be wrong though). She knew that, even though her intentions were towards the greater good, the Ring would overwhelm her in the end.
Again, as always, I look forward to your comments.
Just some food for thought,
