The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey broke records for a film opening in December both domestically and internationally. Here are the details:
- Weekend Domestic (US) Gross : $84.6 million
- Weekend International Gross: $138.2 million
- IMAX Record Gross: $15.1 million
No doubt the film will settle in and most likely gross in the $300 million (domestic) range, which would put it on par with FOTR. However, movie attendance is down from the LOTR films, with the similar income being made up by inflation and premium prices for 3D and IMAX showings.
Do you think it merits the same record-taking grosses at the box office as the previous Middle-earth films?
