Smaug Over EsgarothPeter Jackson has told Empire Magazine a few bits of info about The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, revealing what scenes will be in the second film, and how Smaug will appear–briefly–in this year’s film.
First off, Smaug will appear in the prologue to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey–I’d imagine in the same vein we saw Sauron in the prologue to The Fellowship of the Ring. Additionally, Jackson said “remain as liquid tongued as the book’s memorable villain (he is a character not a monster).”
Secondly, the Mirkwood spider scenes have been moved to next year’s film, and that the arachnids will have “psychic communication” of a sort.
Radagast the BrownLastly, Jackson confirmed that the Necromancer of Dol Guldur (aka Sauron) will appear in the second film, with Sylvester McCoy (Radagast the Brown) teasing pointedly that the film will have a scene, “where the wizards are together, battling not each other but some other evil.”
What do you think of the changes to the film… particularly the completely fully Jackson-created attack on Dol Guldur?
