Frank from our Messageboard has translated this article for us. It seems as if one of Swedens biggest newspapers has had a look at the Cannes footage, and they absolutely love it.

CANNES. All fans of “Lord of the Rings” can be calm. The film looks fantastic. Yesterday 26 minutes of footage from the adventure was shown in Cannes. Exciting, spectacular, impressive. Wow.
At christmas, the first out of three “Lord of the Rings”-movies will hit the cinemas. Yesterday director Peter Jackson presented a 26 minute long appetizer.

First came a lot of short scenes that establishes the plot and introduces the characters. Here we can see the idyllic Shire and the arrival of the powerful Gandalf, featuring long beard and a pointy blue hat. This is also where Bilbo celebrates his 111-birthday with spectacular fireworks, looking very vivid on the screen.

Young hobbit Frodo (Elijah Wood) learns about the powerful, and dangerous, ring. By using special effects, Bilbo (Ian Holm) and the other hobbits only reaches to the waist of Gandalf (Ian McKellen). Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Legolas (Orlando Bloom), Boromir (Sean Bean), Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) and Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) are introduced. Saruman (Christopher Lee) can be briefly seen, as well as Elrond (Hugo Weaving) with his daughter Arwen (Liv Tyler).

Then comes a 14 minutes coherent section where the heroes walks through Moria. Instead of going over the dangerous mountains, they walk through the mines that once were the home for dwarves.

All they find in the magnificent halls of stone are skeletons. And new dangers. It’s a most exciting moment, which shows how well the digital effects works. The spectators were immidiately absorbed by the story, and the audience screamed as one terrifying creature after the next went to attack.

Finally came also a lot of short scenes from the two sequels. Even glimpses from the climax, with an almost dying Frodo, carried by his friend Sam, and the seductive temptation from the magic ring. From close-ups at the ring to great battles with thousands of creatures. Horror and excitement, humour and warmth.

Judging by this footage, “Lord of the Rings” will be exactly the breathtaking spectacle that all fans of the books have hoped for. Let the countdown begin.
