“The Hobbit” stage play opens in Seattle today.
“The Hobbit.” OK, so you read all this J.R.R. Tolkien saga about Bilbo, Gandalf and the gang. And you’re eagerly awaiting the big-budget movie based on it.
But on a smaller, homier scale, consider bringing a young Hobbit-lover (or just yourself) to this puppet version of the beloved fantasy-epic set in Middle Earth, the precursor to Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings.” Concocted by two eminent puppet outfits, the Carter Family Marionettes and the Oregon Shadow Theatre, it promises to be a lively retelling. (Tonight through Feb. 11 at Northwest Puppet Center, Seattle. 206-523-2579.)
