Narnia Optioned for New Line – The Silver… Screen

Cinescape is reporting that “Former Dimension Films prez Cary Granat’s Walden Media has optioned C.S. Lewis’ THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA, with an eye towards bringing it to New Line and Warner Bros.”

Why does this bear mentioning here at Tolkien Online? Well, for one Lewis was Tolkien’s closest friend for a good deal of his life, and was the continual prodding voice that got Professor Tolkien to finish and publish The Lord of the Rings. And I know many of you Tolkien fans are also Lewis fans, particularly fans of The Chronicles of Narnia.

And all of this comes after HarperCollins plans to publish more books in the world of Narnia (clearly not written by CS Lewis).

I only hope that great care and respect for Lewis’s loved books is taken as these masterpieces approach the silver screen. It looks like New Line has done a wonderful job with LOTR (no, I haven’t seen it yet, but Ted has, and he was quite impressed), so this may bode well for Aslan, Lucy, Edmund, Prince Caspian, and Puddleglum.
