I feel as though I’ve seen the scene above already… but only in my own imagination. The chill carried on the wind is nearly palpable.

You can see the anxiousness of Legolas and Gimli at Helm’s Deep as they await the forthcoming battle. The darkness of the scene seems to portend the struggle to come.

I’m struck by Gandalf in this picture. I think this is the best painting of Gandalf’s face I’ve ever seen, even though he is asleep. Anke captures a delicate atmosphere with the white highlights on the dark night (especially in the grass and trees): silence emanates from the painting.
