For Immediate Release:
Tuesday, December 16, 2003
Loews Cineplex, located at The Waterfront in Homestead, PA is celebrating the release of the third installment in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, “The Return of the King” by having several events dedicated to serving the community. In honor of “Trilogy Tuesday”, a special event coordinated at 100 cinemas in the U.S. and Canada, The Pittsburgh Line Party of TheOneRing.net is having a book drive for the “Treasures For Children” campaign of The Salvation Army of Pittsburgh. We are asking those attending the 13 hour event that day, as well as the community in general, to bring new or very gently used books for children from pre-school through the teen age reader. For “Lord of the Rings” fans, please bring either paperback versions of “The Hobbit”, for young readers under age 10, and LOTR for readers ages 11 and over. We would like to encourage the community to bring books for the campaign from December 16-Dec.21.
There will also be a display of beautiful cakes to sample from our friends at local Giant Eagle stores. The proceeds from this drive benefits the First Step charity, a shelter that helps women and children suffering from domestic abuse.
We would like to thank the following companies who contributed to these fundraising efforts: Godiva Chocolates, Target Stores, Giant Eagle, Houghton Mifflin Publishing, New Line Cinema, and Antioch Press.
Through the continued efforts of organizations like The Salvation Army and First Step, help, a love of reading, and a celebration of community are always available for the Greater Pittsburgh area. We who celebrate the works of author J.R.R.Tolkien wanted to share some of our resources and energy with these special organizations.
