Xenite.org reports that Helge Kåre Fauskanger, operator of the Ardalambion web site, has come into possession of copies of two previously unpublished Quenya texts written by J.R.R. Tolkien: a translation of the Lord’s Prayer (Pater Noster), and a copy of the Hail Mary (Ave Maria).
However, the Tolkien Estate has denied him permission to publish a copy of the original semi-calligraphic text of the Quenya poems. The Estate is also barring him from publishing his sixty-page analysis of the text in a non-profit American Tolkien journal, even though Fauskanger and his attorney believes that the research would be protected under fair use exclusions of American copyright law.
Now Fauskanger is asking fans to write to the Estate and express their support for his work. “The Quenya text,” he says, “provides considerable insight not only on the invented language, but also on Tolkien’s methods of work.”
