No, it’s not a statutory holiday, but it is a great opportunity to see some cool movie footage and other goodies.
Here is an excerpt from a report in IGN FilmForce:
New Line Cinema, publishing house Houghton Mifflin, and bookstores across the U.S. of A. are getting together to put on a huge Lord of the Rings event this autumn. On November 8th, two of the publisher’s new books, The Lord of the Rings Official Movie Guide by Brian Sibley and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Visual Companion by Jude Fisher, will be released. In conjunction with the releases, Houghton Mifflin will be showing an exclusive 20-minute video. According to a Houghton Mifflin press release, it will include “the story behind the J.R.R. Tolkien publishing phenomenon; never-before-seen interviews; behind-the-scenes film footage; and conversations with director Peter Jackson, artists Alan Lee and John Howe, as well as stars from the movie, including Ian McKellen, Elijah Wood, Cate Blanchett, Liv Tyler, Viggo Mortensen, and Orlando Bloom.”
A list of all bookstore locations participating in Lord of the Rings day follows at the end of this article. Tolkien fans living in or near these cities are highly encouraged to attend. The festivities will begin at 1:00 p.m. local time at each location.
Houghton Mifflin’s two movie tie-in books, the Official Movie Guide and the Visual Companion, will be available at all locations and will retail for $14.95/$24.95 (paperback/hardcover) and $19.95 (hardcover), respectively. If the Star Wars phenomenon has been any indication, more wonderful Lord of the Rings resource and companion books are sure to follow.
