Fresh rumors from the LEGO fan community suggest two major Middle-earth sets are in development for 2027 and 2028: a long-awaited Icons-scale remake of Helm’s Deep and the first-ever official set based on the Prancing Pony inn in Bree. Neither has been confirmed by LEGO, so treat these as rumors for now, but the sourcing is credible enough to get excited about.
The reports originate with Brick Fanatics, citing leaker Carterbricks04, who has a track record in the LEGO community. The timing fits: LEGO released the Rivendell Icons set (10316) in 2023, followed by Barad-dur (10333) in 2024, and a rumored Mumakil/Oliphaunt is reportedly also in the pipeline. A Helm’s Deep remake and a Prancing Pony would continue that pattern of large-scale, display-grade Middle-earth releases.
The original Helm’s Deep sets from 2012, the Battle of Helm’s Deep (9474) and the Uruk-hai Army (9471), have been retired for over a decade and command serious money from collectors. An Icons remake, built to the same scale as Rivendell and Barad-dur, would give the fortress of the Hornburg the architectural detail it deserves as one of Tolkien’s most dramatic battle locations. In The Two Towers, Helm’s Deep is a place of desperate last stands and unexpected hope, and the geography of the Deeping Wall and the Hornburg are specific enough that a careful LEGO build could actually capture the layout Tolkien described.
The Prancing Pony is a different kind of set. Where Helm’s Deep is spectacle, the inn at Bree is story. In The Fellowship of the Ring, it is where Frodo and the hobbits step out of the Shire’s safety for the first time and meet Strider, the weather-beaten Ranger. The rumored set is said to come in around $120 or more, with at least five minifigures: Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, and Strider. Innkeeper Barliman Butterbur may also appear.
Again, LEGO has not officially announced either set.
