Free League Publishing has officially announced two new sourcebooks for The One Ring RPG, and both are aimed squarely at the parts of Middle-earth that loom largest in Tolkien’s legendarium. According to CBR, the books will launch via a BackerKit crowdfunding campaign in September 2026, alongside a Revised Core Rules update for the game.
The White Tower and the Hall of Gold
The first volume, The White Tower and the Hall of Gold, covers Third Age Gondor and Rohan in depth. Minas Tirith and Edoras sit at the heart of this book, with detailed coverage of key personalities, deep histories, and adventure hooks designed to let groups run campaigns in the age when Sauron’s shadow first began to stretch across the south. Those playing the 5e adaptation, The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying, will find their own edition of this material in a companion volume called Realms of the South, with lore kept consistent across both systems while the mechanics conform to their respective rulesets.
The second book, Creatures Strange and Foul, is a bestiary drawing on the full breadth of Tolkien’s writings, assembling stat blocks and lore entries for the fell beasts, shadow creatures, and monstrous figures that haunt Middle-earth. The 5e companion to this volume goes under the title Of Orcs and Evil Things, keeping the same creature catalog in a form suited to that ruleset.
Francesco Nepitello and Gareth Hanrahan’s work on The One Ring has earned a strong reputation for holding closely to the tone and texture of the source material–both of these new volumes lookar to continue that approach. The Revised Core Rules rounding out the BackerKit will bring updated artwork, improved layout, and expanded rules examples to the foundational text of the game. No final retail release dates have been confirmed for any of the three books.
