Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have confirmed that Elros Tar-Minyatur will appear in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3, set to premiere November 11, 2026, on Prime Video. According to GamesRadar, Elros will appear in a flashback sequence depicting the founding of Numenor.
Elros was the twin brother of Elrond, son of Earendil the Mariner and Elwing, and a Peredhel — one of the Half-elven. The Valar gave the twins a choice that no others in Tolkien’s legendarium faced: to be counted among Elves and share their immortality, or to be counted among Men and accept mortality, the Gift of Iluvatar. Elrond chose the Elves. Elros chose Men. That decision shaped the entire history of the Third Age.
Elros founded Numenor, the island-continent raised from the sea by the Valar as a reward to the Edain who had sided with the Elves in the War of Wrath, in the year 32 of the Second Age. He took the regnal name Tar-Minyatur, “the First,” and ruled for 410 years, dying at age 500. Unfinished Tales records the full line of Numenorean kings and the details of his reign. From him descend Elendil, Isildur, and, twenty-plus generations down the line, Aragorn son of Arathorn.
Season 2 of Rings of Power ended with the fall of Eregion and the forging of the One Ring confirmed for Season 3. A flashback to the founding of Numenor would land during the show’s big-picture sweep through the Second Age, though the showrunners have consistently compressed and rearranged Tolkien’s timeline. Numenor itself was founded roughly 1,600 years before the War of the Elves and Sauron,
We can assume Robert Aramayo will portray Elros — they are twins after all.
