To accompany his reading of The Hobbit, Andy Serkis and Harper Collins UK will be releasing a brand new complete audiobook of The Lord of the Rings in September of this year.
There is a current Lord of the Rings audiobook narrated by Rob Inglis (published in 1965), it seems high time for a new narrative read of Tolkien’s masterpiece. The audio quality of Inglis’s reading leaves a lot to be desired when compared to the quality of audiobook recordings in the past decade.
There’s no question Serkis will bring Gollum to life in this new reading, a bigger question will be how does he handle all the songs Tolkien wrote into LOTR. The songs, I think, was the strong poing of Inglis’s reading.
Looking forward to listening in September.
