Bilbo in Rivendell in Bakshi’s animated LOTR.
Ralph Bakshi’s animated version of The Lord of the Rings (1979) never fails to elicit dramatic emotions from all kinds of Tolkien fans. Thus, BBC Online has posted a review of Bakshi’s LOTR (thanks for the link Natasha!) in January giving rather high marks to the film. However, I feel I must add that the reviewer may not be the most reliable critic–he believes that Disney produced the film (which, of course, is not true at all)! Perhaps he’s not familiar with the what Tolkien said about a film version of his books:

“…It might be advisable, rather than lose the American interest, to let the Americans do what seems good to them–as long as it is possible (I should like to add) to veto anything from or influenced by the Disney studios (for all whose works I have a heartfelt loathing).”
