Unchosen

January 20, 2008 - This poem is not about Lord of the Rings, but it explores the feelings of people who struggle against the temptation of evil (the Ring) and who feel hopeless about their destinies. I originally wrote it to express my feelings to God when I thought about the doctrine of election, and I wondered if, even though I think I am a child of God, I don't really have any way of knowing. So, elect or not, this is my take on life. I only later realized that Tolkien must have had similar struggles and put his thoughts on the matter into characters like Gollum and Boromir.
