Back to The One Ring

Welcome to The Reading Room! The One Ring proudly presents a website dedicated to featuring fan-written fiction, poetry, and scholarly writings, all inspired by JRR Tolkien and the people and places who inhabit his worlds. Take your time and peruse some of the talented folks featured here (and you can still navigate through The One Ring by using the menu at the left)!

Looking to publish online in a wider format? Then try Jottler.

Jottler is a community of writers and readers sharing their works, thoughts, and inspirations. It is open to a wide variety of genres and subjects other than Tolkien related works, such as Fan Fiction, Fantasy, Fiction, Poetry and Science Fiction.

Here's how it works:

  1. Submit your writing to Jottler, giving it a title and selecting a few appropriate categories.
  2. Announce your work by posting a link to it on Facebook or Delicious (right from your writing page), or send a quick email to anyone you'd like letting them know of your new writing. Also, users who are subscribed to you will receive an email with a link to your new work. Of course, anyone can also search and browse to find your work.
  3. Comments will follow!  Visitors to Jottler can easily comment on your writing, making constructive suggestions (hopefully!) and offering praise where due.
  4. Read the comments and see what  your readers have to say. You may want to make some changes to your writing, and then resubmit your work--not as a new submission, but as an edit to the current one!  We keep every revision of every one of your works so you can easily see how your writing has progressed.  We'll even make sure that the comments for the older versions of your writing are noted as such. Again, folks following you will find out you've revised your work automatically, but you might want to announce it again.
  5. Finish your writing. When you decide not to continue a work anymore, you can choose to do nothing with it, or you can click the "Your Writings" link in the top menu (under the "Welcome" text), find your work, and then click the "unpublish" link.  Now, no one except you will be able to see your writing.
