amrasling (n.) ancient Noldorin contest of strength; performed by two Elves. Origin attributed to Amras, seventh son of Fëanor. A form of it survives to the present day.

aredhellion (n.) Your trouble-maker sister who runs off and winds up hitched to the Middle-earth version of a Hell's Angel.

BelAiriand (n.) The freshest neighborhood of Arda.

blung-blungs (n., colloq.) Showy jewelry worn in an heavy-handed way. Phrase originated by elven rappers of Doriath.

BoLT (v.) - What people do to get others into tevilduh - they engage them in deeply geeky Tolkien - related conversation. See tevilduh.
By expounding on the various topics in "Morgoth's Ring" and other HoMe volumes, Billy unwittingly BoLTed his friend, warping her brain.

Charlie Beren (n.) That poor mortal who just can't get a break.

Christian Dior (n.) The unusually fashionable son of Luthien and Beren.

elucidate (from Elu Thingol) (v.) To make it very clear that you do not like your daughter's new boyfriend.

erubble (n.) Debris left over from the creation of the world.
If you're not going to use that erubble, can I have it? It would make a swell tree fort.

erude (n.) To be unrepentant and stubborn, but just what are you going to do about it?
Interrupting Melkor's jam session in the middle of Ilúvatar's theme was a relief to most of the Ainur, but, like Melkor's bassist said, it was kind of erude thing to do.

erudite (adj.) So educated and refined as to be practically...godly.

fëalty (n.) Loyalty that goes on way, way, way after you should have given up and gone home.
One post to the "There is something peculiarly homoerotic..." thread, and before you know it you've sworn fëalty to it for all time.

flinding (n.) An obsolete, archaic or dated name for something. Derived from Flinding, Gwindor's (from the story of Túrin) original name. Synonyms: orgof, wendelin, tinwelint (2).
"Icebox" is a flinding for a refrigerator.

glaurung (v.) To reveal bad news in the most painful way possible.

grond canyons (n.) Pits in the ground caused by Fingolfin and Morgoth dueling.

grond finale (n.) The spectacular climactic Fingolfin-Morgoth duel in a Silmarillion movie.

grond master (n.) One adept at using a huge mace in combat.

Lucien Tinuviel (n.) The elf-girl who always pulls Charlie Beren's football away.

maeglint (n.) The shifty look in a suspicious character's eye.

man in wolves' clothing, a (colloq.) somebody who looks dangerous, but is actually quite harmless (unless, of course, he's going to steal one of your Silmarils).

morgothic (n.) creepy architecture that makes your skin crawl.

red maw (n.) a toothless mouth; a toothless grin.
Gandalf, quit your clowning and put your dentures back in! I don't need to see that gaping red maw any more!

silmakill (v.) To set an impossible task for someone, usu. in the hope that it will save you the trouble of killing him yourself.
After much deliberation, Thingol decided to silmakill Beren--it was much easier, and more circumspect, than murdering him outright.

tevilduh (n.) a state of confusion caused when a Tolkien-related conversation gets way too geeky for one party.
Derived from Tevildo, Sauron's cat precursor from the Book of Lost Tales.
Billy's ramblings on the Tale of Years, the correct usage of dipthongs in Quenya as opposed to Sindarin, and the evolution of Eriol to Ælfwine sent his friend, who had begun their conversation by discussing Orlando Bloom's sex appeal, into tevilduh.

Tickle Me Ulmo (n., trademark) a popular water-spurting, trident-thrusting doll that is traded among the Valar as gag gifts.

tinwelint (n.) 1. an arcane term for the little balls of lint in Thingol's pockets. 2. An obsolete, archaic or dated name for something. See flinding.

túna melt (n.) A sandwich enjoyed by the Noldor in Tirion.

turgoner (Tur-GONE-er) (n.) One who is about to learn the meaning of the phrase, "Pride goeth before a fall."

túvo (n.) 1. a Tolkien-related tidbit so unbelievably obscure that when it's brought up, even the people who've read about it can't quite place it, or what it is, without some heavy digging through the books. 2. A Tolkien-related tidbit not that obscure, but enough to freak out non-book readers.

Túvo or is an incredibly obscure wizard character only found in The Book of Lost Tales, chapter 10, Gilfanion's Tale.

Bringing up túvos can be used to freak out the movie-only, "oh-"___"'s-so-hot" and "whoa-"___"'s-so-kewl" kind of fans if the users aren't freaked out themselves.

Tyaliévwhat? (interj.) _Expression used when in tevilduh.

As Billy's lecture reached the points on how the tale of Beren and Lúthien originally differed from the one in the Silmarillion, Cathy could stand it no longer, and she blurted out, "Tyaliévwhat?"

Vulgar form - Tyaliévwhatthehell!

Variant: Tyaliévhuh?

Derived from typical reactions to these kinds of conversations, which were derived in turn from the Elvish name of some obscure Tolkien place dating from 1916-17, Mar Vanwa Tyaliéva, The Cottage of Lost Play.
