Silvren's Journey - Chapter 4
Days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months.
Silvren spent most of her time horseback-riding, climbing trees, swimming, and sometimes, though rarely, she would go hunting with Legolas.
Occasionally there would be feasting and dancing but she would always leave before the dancing. Missing Elladan and Estel whom she always danced with back at home.
She would leave Legolas standing against the far wall of the chamber, all alone for he refused to dance with anyone else. And usually, he would leave some time after she did.
Soon a year passed by then another and Silvren celebrated her 1000th birthday on the second year of her visit.
"Silvren! Silvren!" Legolas called out as he wandered about the woods by the palace. "Silvren, where are you?" Suddenly, a tall figure jumped down from a tree above and landed in front of him.
"Right here. " Silvren said happily.
"Well, it's about time I found you. I need to talk to you. " he said seriously as he began walking back towards the palace.
"Okay. " she answered, knowing that something wasn't right. For a while, they walked in silence, neither one speaking to the other, then Legolas broke the silence.
"Silvren, I think you need to go back to Rivendell." he said quietly and seriously.
"What?! Why? " she asked surprisingly.
"Your father is extremely worried about you and fears the worst. They've looked everywhere but here for you. You 're going to have to go back sooner or later. "
"But I like it here and if I go back I'II be forced to marry Telden. " she said.
"If Telden comes back and finds you here, he'll force you into marriage even sooner! You have to go back!"
"No. I won't go back!" Silvren said stomping her foot in the dirt.
"Silvren. " he said grabbing her arm and swinging her around to face him. "You have to go back!" he raised his voice.
"I can't!" she cried and yanked her arm from his grasp, running towards the palace. Legolas watched her disappear through the palace gate, then took off after her.
Silvren collapsed on the side of her bed, her hands grabbing a hold of the blanket as she buried her face into the side of her blanket. She jerked her head up at the sound of Legolas entering her room. Silvren stumbled to her feet and walked across the room and stood cowering in the comer with her left shoulder towards him.
"You must go back. " Legolas stated as he walked over to her and stood beside her, placing his strong hand on her trembling shoulder.
Silvren shook her head as tears streamed down her cheeks, she would have moved away from him if she could, but she was stuck where she was.
"Silvren, I don't like yelling at you or forcing you to do something that you don't want to do. But, if that's what it takes then I don't have much of a choice. "
"No. I won't go. " she muttered through tears.
Legolas glanced out the balcony doors and watched as it began to pour, a streak of lightning flashed in the distance. The low rumble of the distant thunder reached his ears as he turned back to look at her. She still stood there in front of him, crying into her fists. Legolas turned and began walking about her room, thinking of a way to persuade her to go back.
"If you don't go back, they 'II end up coming here sooner or later. What about when your brothers come to visit? Huh? As much as I would like to hide you here, I can't. It's not right. I can't, Silvren. You have to go home!" he shouted.
Slowly, Silvren sank to the floor, arms wrapped about her knees as she cried into her knees. Legolas
walked over to her and knelt down beside her, placing a hand on her small shoulder.
Silvren turned her head away from him, ignoring him, not wanting him to be near her. Slowly, Legolas stood up and walked out of her room in search of his father, hoping he could help him.
"I don't know what to do. Father. She won't talk to me now." Legolas sighed as he stood with his father in the king's study, the storm continuing to blow closer to the place grounds.
"You can't blame her, can you? " Thranduil said, turning to face his son.
"No. " Legolas said shaking his head.
"All I can tell you is to stay with her for now. Try talking to her later. Both you and I know that she'll have to go back soon. If we have to, we'll inform Elrond and have him come here to get her. But, if she finds out, she 'II probably run. Then no one will know where she is. " Legolas nodded with a slight bow and left his father's study, making his way towards Silvren's room.
When Legolas entered her room, he saw that she was still sitting huddled in the comer. Silvren turned her head towards him as he slowly walked across the floor. Slowly, she stood to her feet. Legolas stopped walking as she stood up, afraid she would make a run for it. Silvren ran over to Legolas and threw her arms around his chest.
"Please...please...don't make me go back." she cried. Her eyes were red from crying and her cheeks had streaks of tears running down them as she stared up at him.
Legolas wrapped his arms around her and held her close, feeling guilty about yelling at her. "I can't go back. I'm too scared, Legolas. Please." she pleaded.
Legolas placed his hand behind her head and held her head against his chest as he bent his head forward, his lips barely touching her hair.
"I wish I could keep you here, but I can't. You have nothing to be afraid of. " he whispered.
"But I am afraid."
"I know. I know."
Minutes slowly dragged by as he stood there tightly holding her, not wanting to let go. "Why don't you rest some. " he whispered as he gently pushed her back by her shoulders.
"No. " she said trying to resist his push.
"Why? " he asked sighing heavily.
"Because I want to stay with you." she said looking up at him with her normally happy eyes that were now full of fear and sadness.
"Come on. " he said as he took her hand and led her to the bed. "I'll sit with you until you fall asleep. " he said as he sat down on the bed and leaned back against the headboard.
Silvren snuggled up next to him with her head and hand resting on his chest. She could feel the gentle rise and fall of his chest and the silent beating of his heart. Her eyes slowly closed and she drifted off to sleep.
After a few minutes, Legolas glanced down at her and saw that she was sleeping peacefully. Slowly, so not to disturb her, he sat up and gently laid her head back down on the pillow. Legolas softly kissed her on the forehead and quietly left her room, closing the door behind him.
