My Family - Dresses and Pillow's
"I want to wear the purple one!" demanded Arwen.
"Are you sure? The blue matches your eyes so nicely..."
"Purple! Purple purple purple!" persisted Arwen. Elrond sighed and put the blue dress away.
"Alright then. Purple it is." and handed the lilac dress to her. Arwen beamed at him.
"Now while you're putting that on princess, I'm going to check on the boys alright? I won't be long, I promise." and he slipped out. Crossing the corridor to the twins room, he rolled his eyes - "far too like her mother." he muttered, and knocked on the wooden door.
"Elladan! Elrohir! Can I come in?" he called. There was a scuffling sound and a hasty, "Quick! Tidy up!" before the door creaked open a slither a few seconds later.
"Yes Ada?" Elrohir asked innocently. Elrond raised an eyebrow.
"Can I come in?" he repeated.
"Ah, well, you see, now isn't really a great time -"
"What have you been doing?" questioned his father suspiciously.
"Nothing - nothing at all!" came the reply. Elrond snorted.
"Right...well, you can let me in then can't you?" and catching Elrohir by surprise, he pushed the door open, to reveal what resembled a battle-field. A feather pillow appeared to have been ripped apart and the contents covered the room in a dusty white. Drawers had been thrown from their chests, and clothes lay on the floor and hanging off shelves. Elladan was sat in the middle of it all, covered in feathers, frantically stuffing clothed under his bed. He stopped abruptly as Elrond surveyed the scene, one eyebrow still raised.
For a moment there was silence. Then simultaneously, each twin pointed at the other.
"It was him." They accused one another.
Elrond looked hopelessly out of the window. It was almost noon - Celebrían could arrive at any minute.
"Ok, here's what's going to happen. You two are going to clean yourselves up and get dressed - properly. Then you're going to lock your room so your mother can't see what a complete mess it is. Then this evening, you both going to clean this room from head to toe until it's sparkling. Now I want you ready in 20 minutes. Understood?" asked Elrond sharply.
"Yes Ada." replied both twins. Brilliant! thought Elladan, we didn't even get -
"And you're both grounded for the next two weeks." added their father, before he turned and stepped over the piles out of the room. Closing the door, Elrohir let out a long low whistle. Elladan glared at him.
"Could have been worse." he shrugged.
Re-entering Arwen's room, Elrond grinned to find her happily twirling about in front of the mirror.
"Oh Princess, you look beautiful!" he told he smiling. Arwen beamed up at him.
"Your mother is going to be so proud of you - you've grown up so much!" and she leapt into his arms, burying her reddening face in his robes.
"Come on - let's see what pretty jewelry he have for you to wear." and he carried her out down to his own room, and set her on the luxuriously soft bed. While he began rummaging through some of the things Celebrían had left behind, Arwen started to bounce up and down, reaching for the ceiling. Elrond cast a wary eye over her.
"Be careful princess - we don't want you getting hurt now do we?" Presently, Arwen stopped bouncing and jumped off the bed, running to the balcony. Standing on her tip-toes, she peered over the edge to see the main entrance and court yard of Rivendell below.
"Aha! I knew it was here somewhere! This will go perfectly with your dress." and he pulled out a silver chain and a sparkling purple diamond pendant.
"Arwen?" he called, and she came tottering back in.
"Here we go look - let's see what this is like." and he fastened the clip behind her dark hair. He stood back to admire her.
"There! A real Princess!" and she giggled at him.
"Princess Arwen!" she chuckled.
"Well, then Princess Arwen, we'd better go find your brother's hadn't we?" and setting her on his shoulders, they went laughing and singing down to the hall.
